Eucalyptus Gums in the Garden

Jan Flanigan and her husband bought their 6-acre property in the D’Aguilar Ranges near Brisbane in 1980 because it had gum trees all over it. They are mainly spotted gums (Corymbia citriodora), tessellated gums (Corymbia tessellaris) and iron barks (Eucalyptus fibrosa). They now tower 30 metres over the garden and Jan has incorporated them into her plantings as ‘pillar stones’.

Jan mulches assiduously, including with the gum trees’ leaves and with the plentiful bark shed by the spotted gums.
