The International Branches of the MGS The Mediterranean Garden Society naturally appeals to gardeners and plantsmen and women in the mediterranean climate zone who wish to share the experiences and knowledge of their fellow enthusiasts. However, although only 2% of the world's land mass is in the true mediterranean climate zone, there are many other localities where the micro-climate is suitable for gardeners, private and professional, to introduce some of the many and varied mediterranean plants into their gardens. Also, when gardeners, botanists etc. from northern climes visit the mediterranean climate areas, either because they have holiday homes there or to enjoy the flora, it is of great interest to them to learn about mediterranean plants and how to create a garden in these quite different and difficult conditions. Consequently appreciation of mediterranean plants and gardens is spread throughout the world and the membership of the Mediterranean Garden Society reflects this by being truly international
