A Visit to the Trsteno Arboretum

by Juliet Blackburn

A small group of MGS members in Croatia held its first meeting in April at the Trsteno Arboretum, near Dubrovnik. We hope that if nurtured like a young seedling this group will grow and perhaps one day attain the status of an MGS Branch.

The Trsteno Arboretum is a Renaissance garden which celebrated its 500th anniversary in 1994. On a hillside sloping down to the Adriatic Sea, it is watered by an abundance of spring water and contains many mature trees and shrubs. It is progressively being restored after war damage and looting suffered in 1991-1992.
