The Maksimir Park – A Walk Through Time

text and photos by Danijela Kovačević

The Maksimir Park, in Zagreb, Croatia, founded by Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac, was opened to the public in 1794 and is thus one of the oldest public parks in the world. As well as serving as a place or rest and recreation for the inhabitants of Zagreb, it is also important in the preservation of biodiversity with its centuries-old oaks and its meadows, lakes and streams.
